“The choke factor”
Lay a two-by-four on the ground and walk it’s length without falling off. Easy, isn’t it?
Now place a couple of bricks under the two-by-four, raising it off the ground by a few inches. Walk it again. A litter harder this time?
Now imagine that same two-by-four suspended at the height of your house with no safety net under it. Would you try again?
Choke……
What is the difference?
You have allowed thought and judgment distract you from being..
You know you can do it but you have forgotten.
The higher the stakes, the harder it is to maintain our balance.
That’s what fear does in our lives.
When we’re faced with simple situations in life, it’s easy to do the right thing.
But as the stakes get higher and higher,
it becomes increasingly difficult to focus on the task
We imagine “what ifs” and what might happen if we fail.
Enter the dragon of thought…
Do not allow fear to block your concentration on the now!
Look at the two-by-fours that you have to cross every day in your life.
Are you allowing the thought of fear of a worst-case scenario upset your balance?
Put the situation back on the ground..
Remove the fear(thought) that your mind has created around the possibility of failure and be present…..
Just walk along the plank.
As strange as it sounds…
I am convinced that thought and
all it’s forms of mind activity
Is the key factor limiting our spiritual growth

That is an interesting perspective on fear. As I read along I could sense the fear rise up as that plank was raised ever higher … and that was in just thinking about it.
Yes … Bad Liz! … Bad, Bad Liz!
So, I guess a plank is a plank is a plank … regardless of what position it occupies in time and space.
Yes thought is a limiting factor, but it is also the only way to explore the growth we’ve already achieved.
Fear can paralyze…. literally. At the time you need to flow the most. It’s a real bummer. That’s why the military does not incourage thinking. Mindless repetitions…until it becomes instinct……just follow the orders….
We’re not responsible for our thoughts. We are responsible for our thinking.

I like Wayne Dyers quote..:eprop::eprop:
“No matter how I protest I am totally responsible for everything that happens to me in my life.”

quite an excellent read. esp considering that i’ll be competeing in a rather large sports tournament this weekend (and choking is always a factor).
The worst kind of fear is cognitive dissonance, because that is the ultimate dishonesty.
re your comment above on accepting responsibility, two thoughts occur: 1) you were trained by IBM and 2) you aren’t a Christian.
“Put the situation back on the ground…”
Aye… excellent advice. I guess it goes with the sayings… “Level the playing field” or “Turn a mountain into a mole hill”… implying (if daunted or fearful) we should step back and re-evaluate the situation from another perspective. Solutions are often found when considered from a ‘less-involved’ angle.
Oh… btw… I came by to thank you for the extra lyrics to the Moody Blues song. It is a ‘cracker’ isn’t it! *wonders off happy… singing… without the la de da’s*

while you go back to work (like the rest of us-every friggin monday) just think how lucky you are not to be at the dentist instead…yep-dentist tomorrow-this life is entirely too thrilling-anyway, enjoy it-the experience-no matter what bad guys you expect to come across…peace…you…
*chuckles nervously* a surprise? *now wonders what he initially expected… to be surprised by mediocrity* Thank you for your comment. IT surprised me… and filled me with warm fuzzies.
here
but you aren’t
“Back and forth, I sway with the wind
Resolution slips away again
Right through my fingers, back into my heart
Where it’s out of reach and it’s in the dark
Sometimes I think I’m blind
Or I may be just paralyzed
Because the plot thickens every day
And the pieces of my puzzle keep crumblin’ away
But I know,
there’s a picture beneath
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens…
Because I’m somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I’m somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together
Layin’ face down on the ground
My fingers in my ears to block the sound
My eyes shut tight to avoid the sight
Anticipating the end, losing the will to fight
Droplets of Yes and No in an Ocean of Maybe…”

“You’ve got to trust your instinct
And let go of regret
You’ve got to bet on yourself now star
‘Cause that’s your best bet
…
All mixed up, you don’t know what to do
Next thing you turn around and find the person is you
…
You’ve got to trust your instinct
And let go of regret
You’ve got to bet on yourself now star
`Cause that’s your best bet”
~311~ “All Mixed Up”
“What do you do
When it seems to be true
That all of your Dreams
Are nothing but schemes?
Do you throw them away?
Start fresh the next day?
Or wallow in Doubt, Self-Pity, and Shame,
Because somebody changed the rules of the game?
Well, that someone is You,
And there’s nothing to do,
Except get back up,
Brush off your brain,
Jump back in,
And get going again.”
~The FUXTIX~ “Imagine That!”

The higher the stakes, the harder it is to maintain our balance no choking allowed:wave:
