  • Same old bull

“He no longer dreamed of storms, nor of women, nor of great occurrences, nor of great fish, nor fights, nor contests of strength, nor of his wife. He only dreamed of places now and of the lions on the beach.”
    -Ernest Hemingway

“To me the worst thing seems to be a school

principally to work with methods of fear, force and artificial authority.

Such treatment destroys the sound sentiments, the sincerity and the self-confidence of

pupils and produces a subservient subject.”–Albert Einstein

As school draw ever near to my next awaking

I read the words of Einstein and

Realize that this worst thing he describes

Is the world I work in 5 days a week?

    My own private control drama

    Holographically contained within the

Larger control drama of our public school system,

Which is again contained within control drama of our society.

    Our authority,

    My authority…as a teacher?

What are the qualities of that Authority?

Our public school system continues what cartoons began,

It is our programming to conform without seeing the control drama.

It is the wonder bread we are all fed to ensure we grow up to be

    Proud, Strong, God-fearing Americans

As the time draws ever nearer to the moment when that first bell rings.

The students all coming to attention as

The loud speaker belches out the

Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag

When the Commands from the loudspeakers …..

       fades out and

Leaves the presence of the classroom…..

    in that moment of silence

as I stand before class for the first time……

    the moment of choice

Echo like ….  ripples in a pond

    What we see begins

    With the realization

We are each free in each moment to decide.

  • I love Ernest Heminway….I have read Islands in the Stream three times as well as alot of his other books.  Have I told u this site is like a dream?  I could of swore i did that…it seems like any of these images could randomly appear in one of my dreams.  It’s great.

I have the same thoughs as old Albert.  I think it applies to parenting as well.

What type of job do u have?  I know it’s in the edu. field.  Well, i’ll be around.

  • I teach high school chemistry:sunny:….

and the students teach me life:sunny:

  • I’m here Mango, my appologies for bein selfish.

  • That is very good news indeed:sunny:

  • good thing you are one teacher..thank goodness!!!

  • Ahhh ever read the Prince by Nicclo` maciavielli?   defenatly suggested reading especialy with the current question of athuority .   I made many of my teachers angry with me. I would openly contest them in class  and if their answers where not at least rooted in logic if not truth I would sleep in protest ( passivisim at it’s finest:sleepy:)   Then just to drive the point home I would set the curve on thier silly little tests…….   Shame the same doesn’t work in college

  • HGDKS-:nono:..:spinning:…:coolman:

  • “The devil and a friend of his were walking down the street
when, some distance away, they saw a man stoop down, pick
something up, and put it in his pocket. The friend said to the
devil, “What did that man pick up?” “A piece of the truth” said
the devil. “That is bad business for you, then,” said his
friend. “Oh not at all,” the devil replied, “I am going to let
    him organize it”.

  •

Cool banner! Wow, you are preparing to go back to teaching so soon?  It seems too early.  Maybe that is my old school days coming back…I hate it when school starts, even now for my children.

  • True  authority is based in love and respect…not fear which has been playing on the big screen much too long..I am most sure you have more to teach than chemistry,or at least it seems that way…you have an awesome responsibility and are intrusted each day with minds of the younger ones in your charge…an old Cherokee saying is “We are responsible for the next seven generations”

    blessings,

    beckon

  • You’re just finishing the Jungian conditioning

If you teach *thinking* you surrender AUTHORITY because we all know the number one commandment for thinking volk—QUESION authority:lol:

  • to let you off the hook… every part of society teaches conformity. social pressure to conform, media being the authority. money is a master as well… school is just another angle to make everyone exactly (or enough) the same.

  • I’m glad to hear that y’r students are able to give something back to ya…  Some Professors would rather lecture than listen & i’m glad y’r not one of them.:goodjob:hehehee

According to one of y’r commentators, “If you teach *thinking* you surrender AUTHORITY because we all know the number one commandment for thinking volk—QUESION authority.”

Well, this may be true & it is my belief: As you share your wisdom (great findings) to anyone who crosses your path or simply, speaks with you – i assume, you light their candle and life is all about -passing on the good news for a better tomorrow

~ Dosmangoes, it takes only one candle to start another and so on…  We all want answers and so on…

We also strive to be fully-functioning adults and so on, i know i do.

  • Wow, I sure wish you had been my Chemistry teacher back in high school. The only teachers I had that were even half as cool as you seem to be were English teachers.

I began HS in all Honors classes. I was supposed to take Chemistry my Sophomore year, Physics my Junior year, and Electives my Senior year. I flunked Chemistry (twice) and got kicked out of AP English for arguing with the teacher. I ended up in classes that were too slow for me and then I was sent to the special school for potential dropouts. I fell through the cracks, as they say.

One of these days, I plan to return to college (again) and finish with some kind of teaching degree, probably History or Art or English… I will be on a mission to be a Catcher in the Rye.
