Education in this country is a joke

 

and its time the teachers take some of the blame for it

don't get me wrong here

I am not saying educator are at fault  because they are  ineffective classroom teacher

Some are of course,   but that is not the point 

I am saying that we the ones in the trenches every day

We are the only ones who are in a position to truly understand what is happening

day to day,  in each moment in the classroom

And we know damn well 

Nothing is being proposed by those in  positions of  power that

will do anything to improve the present situation....

and

That if left unchecked...the path we are on today  will result in generations of citizens that will be unprepared  to meet the tremendous challenges they will face in the days to come.

They will however be the perfect drones ... submitting without resistance to countless injustices, allowing wars and bloodshed to continue until civilization such as it  it disappears complete  from the this earth.

Why are the teachers to blame...

Because we as a group have allowed ourselves to become powerless.

case in point

Our district operates on a schedule called AB block

Which means that we see the students every other day. Students have 4 classes and teacher teach 3, one period for the teaches is a planning period. In this period we are expected to grade papers, prepare lessons, call parents, and the list goes on ... as hard as you try it is impossible to get it all done in the time allowed.

The AB block has always been a failure. 

When you see the student only three times one week and twice the other week ...the result are about what anyone with any sense would expect....students forget the much of the  information and much time is spent refreshing their memories.

    

The traditional schedule of teaching the same students every day provides the vital continuity necessary for the teaching process to be effective.

The traditional schedule worked...I was there ...I lived it.

 

Today in class I asked anyone to tell me anything about the lesson we did three classes ago.

No one could remember a thing... because they agreed  it was so far in the past.

 

 

I know by my  directly experience of the inefficiency of the AB block

While teaching  in the Aubrey school district, acting  as the head of the science dept.

We were one of the first in the state to adopt this block schedule.

The direct result  2 years later was found to be 

 one third of the curriculum had to be deleted.

This fact was never publicly acknowledged.

 

A few years later much to my horror and despite my warnings  the new district I had moved to adopted the same AB schedule

The result was identical...

A third of the science  curriculum was abandoned.

Again this fact was never acknowledged

 

It appeared  no one cared in a position of authority cared  about inefficiency of the new system

Perhaps  because everyone liked it.  It made everyone day a bit easier

The academic failure of the new system was totally denied.

 

Things have changes  as things always do and now

Our district has run out of money and is in a financial crisis and so it is frantically looking for ways to save money

This is a godsend opportunity to revert to the tradition schedule of seeing the student every day  ...as it is also much more cost efficient to do so....

Yea! I was elated

Yet woooo

 The adminstration  believes the answer to this problem  is to have teachers give up our one of our conference periods and teach an additional class of 25 -30 student...and keep the insane AB block intact.

This would be a total disaster.

But they have also asked the teacher to particulate by suggesting other alternatives..

 

This is the moment for teachers to finally stand up unite and

make their voices heard, and regain the power they have lost

but will this happen?

NO......

 

It is not often that I am told to shut up by a group of my fellow teachers

but it has happened to me enough times that I am beginning to see a trend

It goes something like this

I see a clear and present situation leading in a direct cause and effect way

to a result that No one wants to experience. 

result that will have a negative effect on teaching.

And when I tell them the situation in no uncertain terms

They become defensive and reject what I am saying...

  

 

Today I was told basically  by a group of teachers  again  "to shut up"

In a meeting discussing this AB block scheduling issue

It was clear that the majority of teachers are united in agreement for a schedule that would result in more daily contact with the students.

I listened in the meeting as we complained and whined about how helpless we are

The teachers believe the administration has already made the choice to continue the AB block 

and that what we want will be totally disregarded,

 I agree with them.

So after holding up my hand for 5 min the leader of the meeting finally recognize me.

I stood up and begin to speak...it went something like this

 

"Here we are again, each of us knowing what needs to be done yet not having a clue as to how to make it happen

How powerless we all feel.. and how powerless we are for each of us is alone as long as we fail to unite

 Afraid that if we speak out against the wishes of the powers that be we will lose our jobs.

"My fellow teachers it is clear are in agreement about what is best for the children

and it is also clear that if we do not act ...that change will not happen.

It is time for us to wake up and realize the only power we have is to unite behind this cause and speak with one voice....

Unite the teachers and the parents  of this district.

We need to seek out and include the parents of the district to join with us in this just cause. For their support is vital. 

The crucial step is this!

We must empower a charismatic individual to represent us.

We must give them our authority .... empowering  them  to speak for us 

We must give them the power to say:

"I have been chosen by a group of  teachers and  parents of this district to speak for them.

They have sent me because the district asked the teacher to participate in this crucial decision

I come here now to speak with one voice for all of us.

This (give them a handout) is the plan we whole heartily endorse...

(explain the plan in brief)

 Well now.............

I further told the teachers 

That I was not the one to represent them. 

I am not suitable....

Look around the room.... i said

"I have angered many of you right now just saying these thing. Yet they must be said for if you do not listen to the message I am telling you and take immediate action  Your voices will not be heard and our one chance to make a change for the better for all our student will be lost. And we will have no one to blame but ourselves.

It was about this time one of the teacher told me

"Stop talking ...   don't say any more"

As if he had been given the authority to speak for all of them?? 

"Is no one with me in this?"....I asked.

Silence. Some looked angry, others would not look me in the eyes.

Some looked at me with pity 

I just got up and left.

 

Like i said before...

Education in this country is a joke

and this is one time the teachers should take some of the blame for it.

 That we are One with the life force power of the universe

and put that light high  upon a hill so that all who are lost

may find their way

 

Only Conscious presence   and the love that flows from it

 can change the dynamic of the equation......

But Listen to me when i tell you ....we waited too long

This is like a foot ball game ...4th quarter

and the other team is kicking our ass

We are down by 4 points ...

and there is just one Moment

on the clock

 

Love those that appear to oppose us...for they are our brothers and sisters

the reality of time is an illusion created with our vast powers of intention

 

And this is the key...

Nothing is more important

than your total attention in the present moment...

This is your connection

This is your only connection

This is Your Only Connection

to GOD.

Religion, politics, and the matrix of our beliefs have blinded us

A friend and I took a few pictures last night of some Canadian amethyst crystals mined by me and Howard 

 

We took most of the pictures in almost total  darkness  and used  unique lighting combinations to present the special qualities found in these amazing crystals

Typically, class today went something like this: 

I explained in great detail the way ionic compounds are formed from the atoms in the periodic table.  Now, this is not a difficult concept to understand; in fact, in years gone by it was routinely taught in junior high, and students could easily master it.  Today however, a significant number of my students were not successful, and they told me in no uncertain terms that they could not understand what I was teaching.

What is happening here?  Are the students less intelligent than those of previous generations?  Has my teaching become vague and unclear?  The answer to these is, "no". 

What has happened is that students have learned to be helpless.  What I mean by this is they have a psychological condition that I call, "Learned Helplessness". 

"Johnny, it seems you're not doing your assignment.  What is wrong?"

"Well, Mr. S., I don't understand how to do it."

"Well, O.K., let's start at the beginning.  Where in my instruction did I lose you?"

"The whole thing, Mr. S.  I can't understand the way you teach."

"That's strange, during my presentation you did not ask a single question.  Why didn't you stop me and ask me to clarify what I was telling you?" 

(No response from the student.)

"Johnny, I did notice that when I was speaking your attention did not seem to be focused on my instruction.  In fact, I think it safe to say that you were daydreaming and not present at all.  So, it's no surprise to me that you cant' understand the way I teach if you are not present enough to hear a word I am saying."

"Johnny, tell me the truth, when I was teaching were you reliving the past, or anticipating the future, perhaps you were looking forward to school being out today, and grabbing some food from the fridge, or maybe you have a date tonight that is on your mind?  Hmmm?  Because your attention was certainly not in the instruction.  No one can teach you unless you are present in the felt moment of immediate experience.

"Johnny, do you see how you are attempting to transfer the responsibility of learning away from yourself and blaming me for your lack of attention?"

"Huh?  I don't understand what you mean!  I was doing my work Mr."

"Johnny, your true work is to visualize what I am telling you and integrate that permanently into your own world model.  In our world of information today, this is the only true power education can give you."

"Mr. S., I can't do that because I can't understand anything you say."

"Well, did you understand what I just told you?"

"No.  It didn't make any sense at all"

"Was I speaking in English?  Did I use words you are unfamiliar with?  Or, are you just in denial, of your own behavior?"

"What?  Leave me alone, Mr. S. You are crazy!!

I just want to do my work."

 

O.k. let's talk about what's going on here.  Johnny has a typical and common case of "Learned Helplessness".  He has discovered the power in claiming to not understand something. He then is no longer responsible for learning and transfers the blame to the teacher. 

And he has also learned that this strategy works.  Teachers are helpless to combat this syndrome because they don't understand the fundamental principles and significance of present moment consciousness.  Our society today does not have a good grasp on this model.  Because our culture doesn't accept and embrace this reality, students then take over the classroom and many, many teachers lose their jobs.  The majority of administrators take the path of least resistance and support insane claims of the students. 

This isn't just a high school classroom phenomenon, it carries over into higher education and the workplace.  Recently, the top official responsible for recruitment to the U.S. armed services stated that they can no longer find enough qualified recruits to train as competent soldiers, and officers. 

But no one had a clue as to what to do about it! 

A fire Chief I know reiterated the same lament, explaining that after training firemen for decades, he suddenly can't find anyone now whom he trusts to learn the job.

Learned helplessness is  so pervasive it is undermining our entire society, and the root of the problem is a lack of present moment consciousness.

We live in a world dominated by the hugely powerful 

 collective   egoic mind

Wars, hunger and unimaginable cruelty are affecting the lives of  millions

of our brother and sisters 

The end time we  have so foolishly expected and  anticipated

But it does not have to be this way

 

There is a  power that rests within each of us.....

 

That power is so much greater than anything the mind can imagine

 

 It is never to late to change the path we are on

both as individuals and collectively as a sentient species

 We are free in each moment to decide....

 

but to make that change a reality

The power of our imagination  

Must be focused and redirected into the intention 

Of transcending  our present state of egoic consciousness..

In just such a way....

as to allow

 Cooperation to replace competition

  Love to replace indifference

Tolerance to replace fear

Hope to replace despair

and suddenly everything changes

as

Darkness onto Light

Music.... filling  the silence in our hearts

at last we can become 

  the beings our creator intended

Howard the Canadian amethyst miner called me yesterday and he shared a remarkable story

A friend of his was on a camping trip way up north in a place called Churchill Manitoba.

After setting up camp a polar huge bear approached the camp.. 

His dog, a natural enemy of the bear,  ran up to the bear and began to bark defensively...

It looked like a bad situation!

But the bear didn't respond in the usual behavior of his biological programming.

The bear held out his paw and began to pet the dog.

fortunately he had a camera and took these pictures of this event

 

The dog licked the bears paw...and they became friends!

 

  

 

The bear showed up every day they were present and played with the dog

but you can see it for yourself the pictures tell the story

 

 

People tell me this event is a fulfilment of an Inuit prophecy of the end times

and so it is also told in the Bible

 

That in the end of days

 

The lion shall lie down with the lamb

 

 

And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

I looked for the Inuit prophecy without success but if you find it please share it with me
 
I did find this wisdom in the Inuit writing

Thanks for sharing. These very thoughts, theories, beliefs have occupied my mind most of my life. They all came from inside. I didnt see it on TV or read it in a book. These realizations came to me of my own cognizance. I've been thinking these exact same ideas for years! I thought i was the only one who realized/saw these things. How could it be that so many see/feel these same issues and critics label us "conspiracy theorists'? ..

What a wonderfully dynamic model this timeless analogy....becomes....

are we not all fisherman ..as we cast out our intention into the field of infinite possibilities

 

and as the power  of our attention 

summons the vast wealth of data from the field.

how easily our mind  becomes distracted....by small fish

yet the wise fisherman stays focused in the  here and now

and recognizes easily 

 the significant quality of emerging novelty  

and snap ......

the large fish becomes apparent...

The choice to hold that one dear

and let the others go...
