At times I wonder what people who believe in satan think about him?

It is not difficult to see God as Light

    Yet darkness is not satan

Darkness is the absence of light

    perhaps then I could imagine

Satan as a  dark reflection of the collective egoic mind

The absence of God in our lives

Is a quality of the deafness

resulting from the constant din  of our incessant thinking…

preventing us from hearing  the subtle beauty

    of his His voice.

  • Yes…this reminds me of the “chitta” and the “buddhi” of Hinduism.  The chitta being the sort of “mechanical” mind, closely associated with the brain and nervous system, which we use to process information like a computer.  The buddhi is a higher kind of mind…maybe pure consciousness…the chitta cannot apprehend god…we have to switch to the buddhi and then the light of consciousness shines.

This is hopeful because it is all a matter of attention…where we place our attention…the chitta is diligent in its occupation of defining ourselves for ourselves in terms of the material world…But, if we ignore the chitta in any moment we choose….and focus our attention on God, then God is instantly there…So we can stop worrying about that awful, eternal burning thing….anyway, I hope I’m right….

  • i think bad things can be caused mostly by stupidity. and then people call it the works of satan. don’t know if there’s a consciousness behind it or not. like what hitler tried to do by exterminating people… caused by stupid thoughts… evil that is. that’s the worst thing i could think of in history though i’m sure there is something else… like darfur and mass murders and such. caused by stupidity.
god i guess would be the opposite of stupidity. intelligence?

  • It has always been a curiosity how artists have depicted the mythology of the most resplendent and first realized of Arch angelic order, Lucifer, the Morning Star, as hideous and horned. In Biblical terms, the warning against the Light may be merely the ploy of the socio/political institution of religion which, as Jung would say, is a defense against the experience of G-d; then again, Jung warned against an addiction to the Light which prevents one from fully understanding the shadows at play. Again, from Jung, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being. We experience the Light as very small children, and grow steadily away from it in the hypnotic drama of social order (ie: corruption) and expectation, and then, if one is wise, seeks again the transparency of Light.

A rather stunning post, and an important one, I think.

    Blessings

  • very good post   lack of light so true   blessings beck

  • that’s crazy.
i never actually thought of it that way.
    NICE POST THOUGH, DAWG.
you need some music on here.

  • Poetic and beautiful. I think you’re closer than most “religious people” on who/what Satan is. We’ve bought into this twisted-fairy-tale version, which is frightening to be sure (nice pic of my mother-in-law, by the way).

In ancient Scripture there is reference to “the Satan” – literally “the Accuser.” The Satan is pretty much a prosecuting attorney to the human spirit. Which could explain lawyers in general. :giggle:

    BE blessed.
